The Koala and Wildlife Hospital Capricornia

Please donate for this worthy cause. Every dollar you donate will go towards building the Hospital.
Why the Hospital?
Central Queensland currently lacks a dedicated wildlife hospital with wildlife veterinarians capable at treating koalas and other wildlife. This critical gap in resources has led to devastating outcomes, including the euthanasia of injured and sick animals or their transfer to distant locations for treatment. Distant travel delays treatment and is traumatic in itself.
Any delay in establishing a hospital now will lead to increased costs and may jeopardise the viability of Central Queensland’s many isolated koala populations.
The need for a wildlife hospital has reached critical levels due to:
-
High wildlife mortality rates. Current research shows 93% of sick and injured Central Queensland koalas die.
-
Inadequate wildlife veterinary treatment and rehabilitation experience amongst commercial veterinary clinics which leads to animals suffering unnecessarily.
-
Most of the care and rehabilitation costs being borne by the Central Queensland volunteer wildlife carers network which struggle financially to meet the demand.
-
The lack of a coordinated approach to wildlife rescue, care and training opportunities.
To address these pressing challenges, we are establishing the Koala & Wildlife Hospital Capricornia in Rockhampton, Central Queensland.
This will be a comprehensive treatment centre that not only provides immediate care for injured and sick koalas but also caters to the diverse needs of other wildlife in the region and ongoing rehabilitation as required.
The Livingstone Shire Council have recently resolved to provide a 10 year Trustee Lease for the Foundation to build the Hospital. We would like to be shovel ready soon, but we need your help.
